I thought I would give this salt plate cooking a whirl. I use Himalayan salt, sea salt and Herbamare, so I thought I would enjoy salt plate cooking. If done properly is does not impart a too salty taste, but just the Goldilocks's right amount! A Himalayan salt plate can be used for sautéing, grilling, chilling, curing, baking, or serving. The trace minerals sulfur, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and 80 other trace minerals also add a more mild, yet full taste for more flavour to the food.
The Important thing to do is to heat the salt plate up slowly. If doing so on the grill is should take about 20 to 30 minutes at 250-300° C. If using a gas grill, start the heat on low Increase heat slowly until the block is ready to use. I may have done this too fast, as the salt plate did crack a tiny piece off. To know it is ready, sprinkle a few drops of water on the block and If they sizzle away instantly, the block is hot enough.
Meat, fish, seafood or vegetables can be gently cooked with no fat – either inside the oven, or on the BBQ. You can also brush the salt plate with a high heat point cooking oil, like coconut, grape-seed, ghee, or even grass-fed butter.
It is recommended that if you heat it on the stove, to use a metal ring between the salt plate and the element.
For my first time, I tried Kohlrabi and Turnip fries! So here is what I did,
- evenly cut Kohlrabi, and turnip pieces.
- 4 Tsp, of paprika
- 2 Tsp. of chilli powder
- 1/2 Tsp. Coriander
- 1/2 Tsp. Turmeric
- 1 Tsp Basil
- 1 Tbsp of Coconut Oil to coat the fries
After cutting the fries, I placed the spices in a glass container, and mixed well then added the fries, covered and shook well to evenly coat the fries. I drizzled the oil over top of the fries and I also brushed the salt plate with a bit of oil. A great tIp is to use a silicone brush as I used a nylon brush and those darn bristles just melted off. Whoops! The fries didn't take long at all, and actually I burned the first batch slightly! I certainly need more practice with the salt plate.
Here are the tasty fries paired with grilled trout, brushed with 1 Tsp. of Walnut Oil, 2 Tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon, and Cardamom. The cucumbers were marinated in 3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar, 5 Tbsp of water, and 1/2 Tsp of dill and Herbamare!
Salt Plate cooking makes for a deliciously prepared Metabolic Balance meal!
The portion sizes for the Metabolic Balance plan do depend on individualized set portions. As well, so do the food options. My Metabolic Balance buddy, my father has different portions than I do, and sometimes we can enjoy the same food choices. However there are food choices on his plan that aren't on mine and vice versa. Today we enjoyed the same dinner!
My dad recently told me that he lost his ring and didn't know he had lost it, until he found it in is truck. I have had to put my rings on different fingers or that may well have happened to me too. I can no longer wear, one ring and I loved that ring! Ringed fingers or healthier? I choose healthier!
My father's latest blood sugar results have been in around the 5-6 mmol/L mark. Prior to the Metabolic Balance program, though, he was watching what he was eating most of the time, his blood sugar scores were around 9-10 consistently. That's a Metabolic Balance success, I say!

I so want that for myself, my family and anyone else that is willing to work towards that as well. With so many Onkwehon:we (original) people struggling with weight issues, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Arthritis, among other diseases, I asked Creator to lead me on the right path to be a messenger of healing in what ever way was meant for me. It certainly didn't come instantly, but little by little, I found my way. I had to do the work of learning, experiencing and healing to be in this Metabolic Balancing space today.
